Well, we can’t prove it, exactly, but we’re willing to bet that the dearth of dialogue in porn lately, as reported by (seriously) The New York Times, is related to an unwillingness to pay writers. It sounds a lot like what the Internet did to the print media: In porn’s case, when hand-held cams got cheap, amateur producers got tools, and they just skipped right over that writing stuff.
There does seem to be, however, a fantastic opportunity to leverage the free labor market: Unpaid “interns” (of course) could help develop the “themes” that have replaced porn’s plot and dialogue.
